Are we becoming Technological Zombies?
We live in an advancing world. Innovation has without a doubt majorly affected the activity of the world and as we grow we find ourselves drawn to technology, to ease our lives and get some time for ourselves. But, does that actually happen, I don’t think so.
Often, we have heard children debating over “Technology is a boon or a bane”; we are always left with a conclusion stating anything use excessively is harmful which brings us to the topic of are humans becoming technological zombies. Well, most of us might say yes but I beg to differ.
Technology has intertwined itself in our day-to-day life so much so that from the time we open our eyes in the morning, we are dependent on them, smartphones, smart TVs, microwaves, mixers, social media applications, laptops, AI’s, and whatnot. If we ask anyone around, a regular person would be using something or the other which is a product of innovation and technology.
But, are they all bad, we need to understand that they aren’t all bad, but how much we depend on them and how often we are inclined to use them leaves us with disadvantages of technology and nothing more.
We lose face-to-face human interaction; we have become insensitive towards pooling out emotions on paper like primitive days and sending out an E-mail or E-card to make people feel special. But, where we made this way, I believe no. We were made to be social animals, interact, play, understand human emotions, touch, and grow. All these have been converted into internet-driven campaigns where applications like Facebook, Instagram helps us to interact; Xbox and PS4 to play, sending videos and picture collages as a way to show emotions and even grow with it. Finding jobs and partners on the internet rather than meeting in person. Only one thing has left from this list, which is the human touch; maybe some way in like the next 1000 years will find its way to humanity. Maybe, then we can definitely call humans technological zombies. But for now, technology is a means to ease our lives and not destroy them. It is the humans who fail to understand the gift of humanity they have got.
As long as the technology remains our slave and we do not let it become our master we will be safe and it will be a boon. Our brain understands innovation is not the controller of the universe. And for bane, I believe we are light years from robots that can control people and man-made reasoning.
So, let’s conclude that humans aren’t technological zombies they are merely using it to the best of their knowledge. Technological advancement has led to the growth and development of nations. In this era, where the world is fighting with Covid-19; it is the technology that is keeping livelihood alive for the masses and the economy running bearing a minimal loss due to the disease. If this is not a blessing, I wonder what is.
